GOD'S WORD TO JEREMIAH....GOD'S WORD TO YOU?

So often I find myself in a situation where I could really do with hearing a clear word from the Lord-and I sometimes forget that He will speak that word to me through the Bible. In our devotions on the road for the last couple of weeks we have been reading through some of the powerful words of the Lord spoken to Jeremiah:

Jeremiah 30.21-22 is a beautiful Messianic prophecy pointing to Jesus. These words give us the confidence that to God we are 'my people' -literally meaning his countrymen, his troop of soldiers led by a mighty warrior. More than that, the Lord tells us he shall be 'our God'- this is a plural word ELOHIM, singular in meaning, with a focus on great power and authority. Jesus' ministry would be to ensure that God's people will enjoy fellowship with and worship of the Lord himself.

Jeremiah 32.26-27  reminds us that nothing is outside God's power and influence. Our source of confidence, so often misplaced, should be firmly in that promise. Here the word for God is YAHWEH-emphasising a personal and covenant relationship with the one who brings about our existence in the first place. God speaks Jeremiah's own prayer back to him from 32.17, and re-affirms that nothing is 'too hard' for the Lord. Nothing is too amazing or too outstanding for God to accomplish.

Jeremiah 33.3 is often described as God's telephone number ( 'call to me and I will answer you') and re-assures us that if we dare to ask God then he will give us remarkable spiritual insight. The word 'unsearchable' literally means 'fortified' as if God will enable us to understand things that otherwise we wouldn't be able to access ourselves. Jeremiah is under house arrest at this time, but that doesn't prevent the word of God coming to him. Why should we ask? God could do anything without our asking, but when we ask we simply and humbly say that we can't do anything in our own strength and he alone is Lord.
