In the winter of 1997, Third Day went into the studio to record Conspiracy No.5. They were anxious to show the world how much they had improved since their first record which was compiled over the band's first few years together.

Third Day worked with producer Sam Taylor [2] who had worked on many of Kings X [3]'s records. Sam really challenged Third Day [4] to stretch individually on their instruments thus, making Conspiracy No. 5 as their most aggressive album to date. It is a departure from their original rootsy Southern Rock [5] style to a heavier, edgier Grunge [6] style.

The whole album was characterized by a heavy guitar sound including wah effects on solo's and Mac's voice was deeper with hints of angst specifically with the song "You Make Me Mad" influenced by the early nineties grunge movement.
