Multi-platinum-selling rock band Third Day has played to millions of fans in numerous sold-out arenas around the world. It’s garnered 24 No. 1 singles across multiple formats—not to mention armloads of Grammy and Dove Awards. Yet the band’s willingness to struggle openly before fans and critics alike to unearth its identity, purpose and mission stands as Third Day’s most valued accomplishment during its first decade together.
“Our career is like a dream I didn’t even know I had,” drummer David Carr says. “It’s gone beyond anything I could have dreamed of.”
Chronology, Volume Two (2001-2006) releases as the second of two special projects marking the Atlanta-based band’s highly lauded career. This two-disc CD/DVD set presents many of Third Day’s top songs pulled from Come Together, Offerings II, Wire and Wherever You Are. Chronology, Volume One (1996-2000) released earlier this year marking the emergence of this regarded band.
“During our first five years we were trying to find our sound and our audience,” guitarist Tai Anderson says. “As we began this second season, represented by Chronology, Volume Two, we knew better who we were as a band, and behind the scenes we’re talking about our role as the church and our role as Christians in culture. That’s a dominate theme people hear in our work, starting with Come Together.” Similarly, the band’s musicianship benefited from five years of relentless touring.
“I do believe we became better musicians as we created and toured the songs that are contained on Chronology Volume One,” lead singer Mac Powell observes. “For Chronology Volume Two, that translates into songs of more musical depth. Our craft simply got better, and living life—especially as husbands and fathers—brought more depth to our writing.”
“We got together and it worked. That there was some sort of unity there—it was kinda like God’s exclamation point,” guitarist Brad Avery adds.
Taking a format cue from it’s popular studio/live track hybrid Offerings projects, Chronology, Volume Two’s 18-track audio disc features “Come On Back to Me,” “Show Me Your Glory,” “Rock Star,” “Come Together” and “Tunnel,” among other studio favorites, plus several previously unreleased live tracks: “You Are So Good to Me,” “God of Wonders,” “Cry Out to Jesus,” and “Creed.”
Rare audio tracks include “Movin’ On Up,” from the Second Chance soundtrack and “I See Love,” from Passion of the Christ: Songs project.
With close to two hours of content, the DVD portion of Chronology, Volume Two provides viewers an in-depth documentary-style look at Third Day’s continuing story from the beginning. Titled “Inside Third Day: The First 10 Years,” viewers will get behind the music to learn how Mac, Mark, David, Tai and Brad worked with tenacity and creativity to earn a place among Christian music’s most respected bands
of all-time.

Bootleg videos from Third Day’s own archives, fan-created tribute videos, high-energy live cuts from the record-breaking 2006 “Wherever You Are” tour, and a video montage set to “Tunnel” completes this engaging collection. Combined with in-depth historical liner notes about the band, Chronology, Volume Two (2001-2006) is the definitive collection for discovering Third Day’s most successful season yet.
“We feel very blessed that we’ve been able to do this as long as we have,” guitarist Mark Lee says. “We want to be good stewards of that blessing; serving others through this platform we’ve been given.” Together, the two Chronology projects offer the most complete picture of the five-man rock band’s creative impact on music.
“From the very beginning of our career there has been an excitement about sharing our faith as we grow closer to God,” Mac says. “I think that what’s different today, and in these songs, is that we have not only a closer walk with God but also a deeper one. These songs definitely reflect that.
“It’s like a marriage,” Mac continues. “The honeymoon is over. We’ve gotten past the newness of the faith journey and more into the faithfulness of that journey. It’s not just about sharing faith broadly with others but also going deeper to discover who God intends for us to be as his people.”
